5 Songs that Make Me Beat the Crap Out of My Steering Wheel
I’m a steering wheel drummer. I’m one of the best in the business. If you pull up next to me at a stoplight you will see me working the wheel. You then have two choices, you can stare in horror or flash me some horns, it’s up to you. But know no matter what you do, I will continue to play.
Some songs require finesse. Alternate patterns of slapping the front and the back of the wheel to lay down a locked in groove. But a handful of tunes demand a primal approach. There is no strategy. There is no reason. There is only an undying need to beat the crap out of my steering wheel to honor what I’m hearing. If you happen to pull up alongside of me during one of these ditties, you can stare in horror. I will allow it.
1. The Beastie Boys “Sabotage”
The volume knob goes up. The hands start to flail. It never fails. If there was such a thing as a steering wheel referee, they would jump in and put a stop to the fight.
2. The Breeders “Cannonball”
When the guitar chunk turns into a pounding of the snare my steering wheel gets a pounding. I often apologize to the wheel in advance when this song starts to play. It gets ugly.
